Training
The Training Division of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for ensuring that all training mandated by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Training and Standards Division is thoroughly completed. This division oversees comprehensive training programs for both sworn and unsworn staff, covering a variety of critical skills and knowledge areas. The programs include training in pursuit driving, active shooter exercises, legal aspects of policing, vehicle stops, and first aid CPR, and are designed to be highly practical and directly applicable to the diverse challenges staff may encounter in their duties. By maintaining rigorous training standards, the division ensures that all staff members are well-prepared to handle these challenges.
In addition to the essential in-house training, the Training Division is committed to staying at the forefront of modern policing practices. It regularly collaborates with external trainers to provide specialized instruction on various topics, broadening the scope of knowledge and skills within the department and introducing fresh perspectives and advanced techniques.
Our commitment to upholding the principles set forth by President Obama’s Taskforce on 21st-Century Policing is unwavering. By aligning with these principles, we not only enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of our staff but also strengthen our relationship with the community, fostering a safer and more collaborative environment for all residents of Buncombe County.
