Patrol

The Enforcement Division of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office encompasses many units within to include Patrol, Criminal Investigations, School Resource (SRO), Civil Process, and Animal Control. Our highly trained and dedicated professionals provide services to over 280,000 citizens and remain committed to the BCSO Mission Statement: “To serve our community as the premier law enforcement leader into the 21st century and beyond.”

Buncombe County is split into 3 districts, each with their own District Captain and Executive Lieutenant who oversee the daily operations within that District.

  • District 1 – Swannanoa & Barnardsville: Captain Angie Tullis & Executive Lieutenant Bryon Crisp
  • District 2 – Fairview & Arden: Captain Elliot Summey & Executive Lieutenant Michael Murphy
  • District 3 – Candler & Leicester: Captain Preston Honeycutt & Executive Lieutenant Richie Moffat

Patrol

Proper and professional response to the public’s calls for service is the primary commitment and focus of the Sheriff’s Patrol Division. We strive daily to offer quick responses with the most professional service possible to the residents of Buncombe County.

Civil Process

The Civil Process Division at the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office serve documents such as summons, writs of possession, foreclosures, executions, claim and deliveries, subpoenas, restraining orders, child custody orders, show cause orders and child support warrants.

School Resource Officers

The SRO Division has 25 highly trained Deputies who actively engage with students and staff at 42 schools within Buncombe County. The SROs build strong relationships with the youth in the attempt to deter them from illegal activity and keep them on-track for a successful future.

Crime Scene Unit

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation of criminal offenses committed in Buncombe County’s jurisdiction. Reflecting the increasingly complex nature of contemporary police work, the division has grown more specialized over recent years to include Property Crimes, Special Investigations, Major Crimes, CSI (Crime Scene Investigations Unit)

Animal Crimes

The Animal Crime Division consists of sworn Deputies tasked with protecting the health and well-being of the people and domestic animals of Buncombe County. In addition to being animal services officers, Deputies also augment other functions of the Sheriff’s Office, providing patrols of County properties and assistance to other Deputies as needed.
