Crime Scene Unit Internship
Hello Summer. Welcome birds, colorful flowers and beach vacations! Falling leaves and class deadlines will be here before we know it.
We are coming up on our fifth intern semester and very excited about our program and the arrival of Fall. I predict this will be another very successful semester for the Buncombe County Crime Scene Unit Internship Program.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office college internship program is designed to offer college age students the opportunity to work within the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) participating in real life crime scene investigations. This program provides the student with step-by-step processing of a crime scene, evidence collection, evidence documentation and processing. Moreover, students will learn what and how to submit evidence for analysis to the North Carolina State lab.
Additionally, students will assist with the investigation and processing of a multitude of crime scenes ranging from residential and business breaking & entering, assaults, drug offenses, property crimes and death scenes. This internship will provide valuable experiences in the field of Crime Scene Investigation. Access to the intern application will close on July 8, 2026. In order to be considered for an internship position with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, you must have all required paperwork turned into the Crime Scene Unit Supervisor by July 15th to be considered for the 2026 Fall Semester. The ideal applicant must be a responsible law-abiding citizen of high moral character and personal integrity; enrolled in a four year degree program; maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average; maintain a favorable credit history and have a working knowledge and understanding of word processing and computer programs.
At this time, the BCSO CSU is only accepting one student each semester. The selection of an intern is a competitive process with the most elite, well-rounded applicants being selected. Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in North Carolina or be a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution in another state. Internships are unpaid and are offered as either a full time 30 hours per week or part-time 16 hours per week. Interns are asked to work a set number of hours per week based on the requirement of their class schedule. Hours are flexible, enabling students to work around their academic program.
